How 3D Printing Conquers the World

As our society continues to adapt to the awesome technology that is 3D printing, the only current limit is the human imagination. Besides that, 3D printing is on a nonstop innovation train. No matter what field you’re in, there’s a high possibility that this technology will be shaking up the workplace. In one form or another, see how almost every industry is affected by 3D printing.

Automotive
The car world has big plans for 3D. Already, Ford has invested 20 years of research into using 3D printers to save design time. Letting a smaller team print their own car designs allows developers more time to play around with new ideas. Besides design, it’s great at creating replacement parts and customizations.
The only hurdle? Mass production. 3D printing a car is currently much slower than building one the old-fashioned way. The power of the printer currently cannot keep up with the high demand for cars. So as far as manufacturing goes, having 3D printers on the production line is still a few years away.

Medical
For implants and other surgeries, 3D printing is the perfect tool to fit a custom piece to a patient’s unique anatomy. But the medical field has bigger ideas for the printer. Right now, they’re also delving into the realm of bioprinting, or printing living tissue such as blood vessels. Each day we’re getting closer to printing functional, breathing material in the medical industry. And we’re already doing so much today. Imagine getting a 3D printed heart or lung when you need a transplant surgery. The future is here, people.

Art
This technology is absolutely revolutionizing the world of sculpture. 3D printing is an entirely new medium with which artists can play. The amount of detail you can program into each piece is stunning, as seen in multiple 3D shows and frequently featured on our own social media. Creators can even share the blueprints of each piece, meaning anyone can have access to print as many copies of mysterabbits or any other statue their heart desires. You want 100 garden gnomes? You can make 100 garden gnomes. That’s the power of 3D printing.

History
Because plenty of ancient artifacts are – well, ancient – creating a replica of a fossil or other sensitive piece allows archeologists and historians to get a better look at them. Dropping a 3D printed copy of King Tutankhamen’s tomb is a lot less concerning than dropping the real thing. We can even scan footprints, bones, or other pieces as a part of creating a whole picture. Interestingly enough, the future is letting us get a better look at the past.

So yeah, 3D printing is pretty cool. As this technology continues to expand, we’re expanding right along with it. If you want to see what 3D printing can do for you, check out our services and join up with the Team One Team!
