Dinosaur Skeleton Head Against Blue Clear Sky

Signs Your Monitor is Actually a Dinosaur

Sure, your computer is old, but the two of you have been through a lot together. Although you might see the signs for upgrading or replacing a broken computer, it can sometimes be just too hard to let go. Ah, but what if it’s just your display that’s the issue, and not actually your whole computer? That would make fixing the problem a lot easier.

Upgrading your broken monitor is the simpler solution and it means you won’t have to transfer all your old stuff. So, how do you know when it’s not your whole computer that’s going bad? Watch for these signs that your dying monitor has officially become a dinosaur:

Loading Time
Just because your monitor works for you doesn’t mean it’s working for you, right? If new images or programs take 5-10 seconds to load or longer, it may be a sign that it’s time for an upgrade. Don’t forget to take into account how well your monitor boots up or shuts down. When your screen dies five minutes in or straight-up doesn’t load even when the rest of your computer turns on, it’s time to ditch the dinosaur.

Image Distortion
Dinosaurs were killed off in the Ice Age. This might explain why your ancient screen keeps freezing up. Ink marks, freezing images or color distortions are common signs your computer monitor is a historic artifact.

Ultimately, you should try plugging your computer into a different monitor to determine if your display is truly the problem. If any of the above problems suddenly disappear when you try your coworker’s monitor, then you know for sure that it’s the screen. But you can’t keep using your coworker’s monitor. That’s rude.

It roars, bites, or tries to eat you.
If this is the case, you should probably get out of there.
